DID YOU KNOW EVERY STAMP OR ITEM OF PHILATELY HAS A STORY
PHILATELY IS A FUN HOBBY FOR ALL

WESSEX PHILATELIC FEDERATION is the body that all stamp clubs and philatelic societies based in Devon, and parts of Cornwall and Somerset belong to. We are affiliated to the Association of British Philatelic Societies.

The WESSEX PHILATELIC FEDERATION was founded in 1946 as the lead body at National Level for all the stamp clubs and Philatelic Societies in the area defined as Wessex. Since this time Cornwall has formed its own Federation and so has Somerset & Dorset. The Wessex Federation still works very closely with the Cornish and Somerset & Dorset Federations to promote philately jointly through ventures such as SWIPEX which is run bi-annually.

The Federation gives help and support to its member clubs to promote philately in the region and to run philatelic competitions and exhibitions. The Federation also helps and encourages new clubs to form within its region. Visit the list of clubs and find out what they do.

In addition to the appointed officers of the Federation each member club is allowed representation at Federation Committee Meetings and Annual General Meetings, this ensures the clubs voice and needs are met. The Federation has various sub-committee's to meet specific needs, such as Competitions, Awards etc.

Many of our clubs and societies have members who are also members of National Philatelic Societies such as the Royal Philatelic Society and the British Thematic Association (BTA). We have members who qualify to enter national competitions with some reaching GOLD medal standard. Others write some interesting articles for our own Wessex News and WETS News along with the nationally published philatelic press, refer to our Publications Page for some examples.
