WETS MEMBERS IN THE NEWS - At "Thematica" held in Seymour Street London on 25-26th June 2005 member Carol Turner won the BTA Trophy for her entry "Malaria & Man", well done and congratulations. Lesley Marley one of our founder members has now been appointed as Vice Chairman of BTA, congratulations from all your friends in WETS. It is always a great delight to see members of WETS hitting the national headlines helping to spread the message that Thematics is proper Stamp Collecting, keep up the good work.

WETS do well at SWIPEX in the Thematic Class - member Richard Wheeler was awarded Gold for his entry "Puppets on Parade", Gillian Gray was awarded a Silver Gilt, David Rosevere was awarded Silver for his entry "From Grandeur to Gravure", member Tony Smith also got Silver with his entry "Anchors Aweigh".

Royal Stamp of Approval was the headline used by the Dawlish Gazette in its report of the thematic display of "The Ruling Families of Europe" given by our Chairman Mary Claydon to the Dawlish Stamp Club on June 8th 2005.

WETS Hit Top - Our display at STAMPEX Village Green looked absolutely splendid stated WETS Vice Chairman Jim Wigmore after his visit to the site to mount the displays on the Tuesday prior to the show opening on the Wednesday 22nd February 2006. There were some very interesting exhibits from all the other thematic societies as well as some individual displays including "A Tale of Whales" by Leslie Marley one of our members and Vice Chairman of BTA. Our display did not perhaps have the best of sites and its write up in the BTA Booklet produced for the show was poor despite BTA being given all the details at the same time as the feature on WETS which did look splendid in the booklet. WETS appear to be the only thematic society to have their own web site and we are one of the smaller societies. Imagine our Treasurer Richard Wheelers absolute surprise when he arrived on the Sunday to be told we had won the trophy for the "Best Display in Show" (we were unaware there was a trophy to be presented). The award is a great tribute to all those WETS members who contributed to our display and shows how WETS have developed quality in depth. WETS Chairman Mary Claydon is thrilled that WETS have been recognised at Stampex after WETS members had done so well at Thematica 2005. Watch out for the reports in the philatelic press about WETS triumph at Stampex 2006, submitted by WETS journalistic genius Tony Smith.

Another Award - Our Treasurer Richard Wheeler is to be awarded "The Franceska Rapkin Memorial Bowl" at Thematica in June this year. Why? For submitting the most popular article to be printed in Themescene during 2005. The committee of BTA made the award decision. Well done Richard, its fantastic WETS members are doing so well and hitting the headlines at National level.
